Canon EFS 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Lens

Key Features

• Excellent value for money
• Wide zoom range
• Light weight

A compact telephoto lens that takes you closer to the action. An Image Stabilizer prevents blur owing to unintentional camera movement. STM technology delivers smooth quiet focusing when shooting movies.

Beautiful bokeh and up-close photography

The seven-bladed aperture diaphragm increases the quality of out-of-focus areas, so your subject stands out against a soft, blurred background. Additionally, this lens boasts a minimal distance of 0.85 metres to shoot small subjects and the non-rotating front element makes using filters easy.

Image stabilisation

Canon's Image Stabilizer technology allows shutter speeds up to 3.5 stops slower than normal to be used whilst limiting the effects of camera shake. This lens also boasts stepping motor technology for smooth and quiet continuous focusing for video and fast, accurate auto focus for stills.

Our expert's opinion

This isn’t Canon’s top-of-the-line telephoto zoom lens but that doesn’t mean that they’ve cut back on quality. It comes with technologies that you’d expect from Canon, such an ultra-low dispersion element to reduce colour fringing and chromatic aberrations, a Super Spectra coasting to minimise flare and ghosting in strong lighting conditions, and of course their STM stepping AF motor for quick and near-silent autofocus performance. The image quality is good. The price is excellent. And you’ll be thankful for its light weight.
