Doubling the light-gathering of other premium zooms, this f/2 zoom achieves its compact design thanks to Sony's engineering expertise. Three aspheric elements and three extreme aspheric elements (six in total) are utilised to minimise the number and size of elements required. Stringent quality control ensures minimal onion-ring effects from aspheric inclusion, while Sonys XD Linear motors provide fast and silent autofocus, even with large and heavy focusing elements. This combination of technologies makes the 28-70mm f/2 GM the pinnacle of Sonys lens engineering.

With an aperture click selector and minimal barrel extension during zooming, the 28-70mm f/2 GM integrates seamlessly into video production environments. Its minimal focus breathing and unique optical properties make it an ideal all-in-one choice for filmmakers.

Equipped with four XD linear motors in two focusing groups, the 28-70mm f/2 GM pairs perfectly with even the most demanding Alpha bodies, offering both powerful responsiveness and fine control for stills and video.

Not only does this lens deliver prime-like resolution across the image frame, but it is also highly optimised for pleasing and consistent defocus. With minimal longitudinal chromatic aberration and smooth, non-distracting rendering of background elements, it provides an exceptional shooting experience.

The 28-70mm f/2 GM lens is an extraordinary inclusion in the GM optics collection. Its constant f/2 maximum aperture offers potent background defocus and superior low-light performance throughout its considerable focal length range. Even with its impressive technical specifications, the 28-70mm f/2 GM lens is highly portable, tipping the scales at a mere 918g - significantly lighter than any similar optic. Consequently, this lens is a superb choice for professionals desiring the unique attributes of prime lenses, whilst preserving the adaptability exclusive to a zoom lens.
