Optical design
The lens has 16 elements in 12 groups, including two LD, two GM and one hybrid aspherical element. Coatings include BBAR G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection). The fluorine coating protects the front element from contamination.
Autofocus compatibility
The lens is compatible with Fast Hybrid AF, Eye AF and Direct Manual Focus (DMF).
Ghosting and flare
The BBAR G2 coating prevents ghosting and flare.
Autofocus and stabilisation
RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) gives fast, quiet autofocus. VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilisation reduces camera shake in handheld shooting. When shooting video, image stabilisation performance improves by leveraging AI technology compared to conventional models. The lens is compatible with Direct Manual Focus (DMF).

The minimum object distance is 0.19m (7.5in) at wide and 0.39m (15.4in) at tele. The maximum magnification is 1:4.8 at wide.

The lens is splash-resistant, and all critical areas have special seals. It has Moisture Resistant Construction. The weight is 525g (18.5oz) for Sony E-mount.
